FAQs

These are some Frequently Asked Questions on how to play About Time. Please send in any others you might have.

You can also download extra Timeline answer sheets here.

Q: What are the Minirules for?

A: MINIRULES, which are shrink wrapped separately in the box, are designed so that you can begin playing About Time immediately WITHOUT having to read the main Rules. Once you are underway, you can refer to the main Rulebook as necessary.

The back of the Minirules has What If I Landed On, which is a guide to symbols on the board.

Q: What is the Timeline on the Timeline Answer Sheet for?

A: TIMELINE ANSWER SHEETS contain a timeline from ancient times (3000BC) to present day, with key events to help you answer questions during the game.

Q: Where are the Tokens in the box?

A: TOKENS are not visible when you open the box. They are in a black velvet bag UNDERNEATH the raised cardboard platform in the box.

Q: Are the tokens distributed at the start of the game?

A: NO. No tokens are distributed to any players until somebody wins a round.

Q: If a player/team lands on a DUEL but no other teams have any tokens, what happens?

A: No Duel takes place.

Q: If a player/team with only 1 token lands on a DUEL, PLAGUE or has a JOKER Timecard played against them, how many tokens go into the Pot?

A: ONE. Although the rules say that half your tokens rounded down go into the Pot, if you only have one token, you still have to put it into the Pot. This means that if a team has 3, 2 or 1 token(s) and lands on a DUEL, PLAGUE or has a JOKER Timecard played against them, they put 1 token into the Pot in every case.

Q: What happens if a team wins the round with an exact year answer after a team has played a Joker Timecard?

A: Currently, the rules (on page 7) say that tokens are not doubled for an exact year answer in the case of Duels, Plagues and Rollovers. This list should include Joker Timecards.

This means if a Joker is played and the winner gets the year exactly right, they will NOT double the tokens in the Pot (as they are in normal rounds).
